After having about 24 hours to use this amazing device I must say that it is truly more than an upscaled iPhone. I’m going to give you a short summary of what I think about this device called the iPad.
Interface:
The UI on this device is truly stunning. At first glance you notice the high resolution (although not HD) screen and crisp sharp colors that we all have come to love from our Apple displays. The iPad icons are sharp but the icons that are from the iPhone apps leave much to be desired due to the lower resolution. In the new iPads they have finally allowed us to change the wall paper within OS rather than just in screen lock mode.
Keyboard: At first I was extremely concerned about how well the touch screen keyboard would work and how comfortable I would be typing for long periods of time. Well that question has been answered. In landscape mode I found that the keyboard took some getting use too but now I am typing at a rather quick pace. Any typos that I make are usually fixed by the wonderful correction software that Apple has build in. If I need to type for longer periods of time you can always connect your blue tooth keyboard or dock keyboard to the iPad for a little more comfort. The only way they could improve on this keyboard is by making the screen size larger (next update?) and copying the size of a standard keyboard.
The portrait keyboard works as it should. My hand size works well although smart hands could h ave a little difficulty reaching for the middle keys. Women who like to keep long fingernails will find that the touch screen doesn’t always work and typing on the touch screen could become quite cumbersome.
Just to let you know that I typed this entire review on an iPad
Media:
The media experience on this device is stunning. If you consume a lot of media such as video, music, reading, photos etc then this is a device you really need to look further into. I believe this is the best and most convenient device for media consumption on the market today. It has something desktops and laptops can’t compete with. Size and portability. From the moment you turn on the device you realize how quick and easy it is to use. In between parts of my day I have found myself picking the device off the table and reading blog articles because it gives me that instant gratification. I don’t have to sit at my computer desk and I don’t have to turn on that laptop. I can walk around a room like I’m reading a newspaper. This seems petty but you will be amazed at how it changes the way you consume media.
